Divisions
Primary Divisions:
I. Low Fence - "Big Buck”, "Junior Big Buck”, "Archery” & "Archery Youth” Divisions
Animals harvested in Texas from property with no game proof fencing, or property that has at least one mile of its perimeter with no game proof fencing.
II. High Fence - "High Fence Division”,” High Fence Junior” & "Archery High Fence”
Animals harvested in Texas from property that is completely fenced with game proof fencing, or property that has less than one mile of non-game proof fencing or less than one mile with no fencing; including animals harvested in non-game proof fenced pastures that are within a property that qualifies for this division.
III. "Open Division”
This division includes all deer that have ever been in a regulated breeding program and subsequently released and harvested by ANY means. The definition of a regulated breeding program is any action that requires a Texas Parks and Wildlife permit (Including DMP deer). ANY buck that has a noticeable tag hole or State ID tattoo will automatically be placed in this division. Any buck from Texas that is submitted without the cape attached to the head will also be placed in this division.
V. "Archery Division”
Animals that are harvested by bow and arrow and crossbow. Archery harvest is eligible through Rifle Season as well as Archery Season.
Note:
- Youth / JR. Divisions – These entrants will only compete within the Special Youth Division. Age requirements are 16 years or younger from opening date of season. Jr. Entrants are not eligible for other Primary Divisions within the contest. Jr. Entrants are eligible Secondary Divisions.
Secondary Divisions:
A. "Most Points”
The total number of points measuring over one inch long. Typical & Non-Typical Points.
B. "Widest Spread”
The greatest inside spread between both main beams maintaining a right angle to the skull (measuring diagonally is not allowed).
C. "Mr. Heavy”
The scorer will combine four Boone & Crockett typical circumference measurements on each main beam, and then total all eight measurements to arrive at the total mass.
D. "Longest Drop Tine”
A drop tine is considered any antler that comes off the main beam, growing in a downward direction. Any point that appears to be a "burr point” or originating from the base of the main beam will NOT be considered for this category. If the drop tine turns upward and exceeds the level of either main beam it will NOT be considered for this category. The length of the "single” longest drop TINE will determine the winner. If a buck has multiple drop tines only the longest tine will be used to determine the score. In case of a tie, gross score will be used to determine the winner.
E. "Ms. Big Buck” & "High Fence Ms. Big Buck”
Any female regardless of age is eligible for the Women’s division, as well as any other contest divisions.
F. "Longest Spike”
The deer must have two individual main beam points. The length of the longest individual point will determine the winner
G. "Lucky Seven”
The deer must be a typical 7 POINT buck having two main beams, two G 1 points (brow tines) and having a total of five typical, "G" tines. A deer that had apparently been a "typical 7", but one of the G l's, G 2's, or G 3's is broken off below the level of where a measurement can be taken (less than one inch), the buck will still be considered an 7 pointer, not a 6 pointer. A deer that had apparently been a typical 8 or 9 pointer that has a typical point (s) broken off will not be considered a 7 point for this Contest category. ANY abnormal score able points or broken points (one inch or more) will disqualify the buck from this category. The animal's Contest score will be the gross, non-typical B & C score.
H.”South Texas Super 8”, "Monster 8” & "High Fence Big 8”
The "South Texas Monster 8 "harvest must be taken in Area VI. The "Monster 8” must be taken from area I, II or III. The "High Fence Big 8” Must be taken in high fence area in area’s I, II, II or IV. The deer must be a typical 8 POINT buck having two main beams, two G 1 points (brow tines) and having a total of six typical, "G” tines. A deer that had apparently been a "typical 8", but one of the G l's, G 2's, or G 3's is broken off below the level of where a measurement can be taken (less than one inch), the buck will still be considered an 8 pointer, not a 7 or 6 pointer. A deer that had apparently been a clean, typical 9 point or 10 point that has a typical point(s) broken off will not be considered an 8 point for this particular Contest category. ANY abnormal score able points or broken points (one inch or more) will disqualify the buck from this category The animal's Contest score will be the gross, non-typical B & C score.
I. "Big Nine” & "South Texas Big Nine”
The "Big Nine” harvest must be taken from area I, II or III and the "South Texas Big Nine” must be taken from area IV. The deer must be a typical 9 POINT buck having two main beams, two G 1 points (brow tines) and having a total of seven typical, "G” tines. A deer that had apparently been a "typical 9", but one of the G l's, G 2's, or G 3's is broken off below the level of where a measurement can be taken (less than one inch), the buck will still be considered an 9 pointer, not a 8, 7 or 6 pointer. A deer that had apparently been a clean, typical 10 or 11 point that has had a typical point(s) broken off will not be considered a 9 point for this particular Contest category. ANY abnormal score able points or broken points (one inch or more) will disqualify the buck from this category The trophy's contest score will be the gross, non-typical B & C score.
J. "Most Wild Hogs”
The "Most Wild Hogs”division will be scored by bringing pairs of wild hog ears. The hog’s must be taken from the wild in the State of Texas. Trapping is allowed. Contestant’s can bring as many pairs of ears as desired and the ears will be accepted until January 22, 2012. The person who brings in the most pairs of ears wins the allocated prize. The” Most Wild Hog” entrieswill not count against a contestant’s paid entry; however, you must be entered in the contest to be eligible. All ears brought in will become the property of the Brenham Knights of Columbus.
K. "Wild Hog” & "Youth Wild Hog”
The "Wild Hog” & "Youth Wild Hog” division will be scored by taking 2 measurements from the head. A width x length measurement will be taken and added together for the final score. A scored Hog will count as an entry. The head is only needed for scoring. No heads or carcasses please.
L. "Best Axis Deer”
The "Best Axis Deer "division is for Area’s I, II, III or IV. The highest scoring axis taken from the State of Texas open and or high fence will be scored using the Gross Non- Typical Boon & Crockett scoring method. Entries will be accepted from November 5, 2011– January 22, 2012. The axis must be harvested during the White-Tail Season dated from Nov. 5, 2011-Jan. 15, 2012. The contestant who brings in the best scoring Axis will win the allocated prize.
M. "Wild Turkey” & "Wild Turkey Youth”
The "Wild Turkey” & "Wild Turkey & Youth” Divisions are for area’s I, II, III & IV. The Turkey’s will be scored by the length of the beard.
Note:
- Secondary Divisions are Spinoff Categories from the Primary Division. If you win a Primary Division you are not eligible for the Secondary Division.
- "Archery” & "Jr. Hunters”are eligible for all Secondary Divisions.
- "High Fence Hunters" are eligible for Most Points, Widest Spread, Longest Drop Tine and Mr. Heavy only.
- "Open Division Hunters" are not eligible for Secondary Divisions.
