GRAND KNIGHT’S REPORT

By Tom Brady

As the year draws to a close it amazes me how much has been accomplished. It was filled with fellowship and charity. We have had strong commitment to charity with Sir Knights donating time for the success of the Bingo with a kitchen staff of many different Knights and family members. The many Sunday Breakfasts which helped support fellowship within the Parish and Knights of Columbus. A winning baseball team which also promotes the Parish & Knights with the Lenten fish fry's. Scholarships for College of our Parishioners children. The many fallouts by the 4th Degree at so many church functions. The Big Buck Contest, the Free Throw Contest, help with the Polish Festival, donations to the church and a wonderfully attended memorial mass for our fallen Knights at the hall last November. This is just a short list of what is going on at your Knights of Columbus!

We have many members who help out at the hall. However the group that does the most in donating their time and talents is the kitchen committee. We have had many a delicious meal for all of our meetings and always served on time with a smile. This is not easy and I would like to thank everyone who has helped with this as it sometimes can be a thankless job. So thank you and you are loved and appreciated.

Once again our group of Knights has made Star Council in Texas. This makes 5 years in a row! Congratulations as a council can only do this if it has an active membership who work together to accomplish meeting membership goals, Insurance goals, financial reporting to State Council and just plain fellowship for a common cause.

So as you can see lots of things are going on. We would like to continue as an active council but we need your help. Please get involved in any of the many things we do. Many active members need help with Bingo, Kitchen Committee, Big Buck and lots of other things we do. In order to maintain or even expand our programs the members need to step forward and participate.

Looking forward to another great year and a Happy New Year to all!

What will the Golden Years hold for you & your spouse?

No one can ever predict, with complete certainty, just what the future will hold. And yet, one of the great legacies of the last century was a dramatic increase in life expectancy. In fact, many of us can expect to live longer than at any time in human history. So, in terms of quantity, our lives have changed for the better.

For that we can thank major advancements in medicine, the eradication of illnesses that were common a century ago, and healthier lifestyles. Moreover, rising affluence has led to improved access to health services.

That’s the good news. The bad news is that too many people are not prepared financially to live long lives. In particular, the cost of long-term, custodial care—whether at home or in a nursing facility—can lay waste to even the best of retirement plans. And government programs aren’t designed to fill the gap.

So, even though life expectancies have improved in terms of quantity, the quality of life for some can be diminished during one’s later years. An inescapable fact of life: we’re all getting older. In aging, you change in some familiar ways—and some that might be completely unexpected. Tasks and activities you once performed routinely or with ease might become increasingly difficult. And over time, you may need more and more assistance with such activities. You might also experience a sudden, acute need for help after a debilitation illness—such as stroke.

Are you prepared for the cost of long-term care—whether in a nursing home or in your own home? Will your loved ones be in a position to assist you—and if so, would you want them to? Today many middle-aged people must provide assistance to elderly, infirm parents just when they’re ready to send their own children off to college. Experts call this the “sandwich generation.”

Fortunately, because you are a part of the Knight of Columbus family, you have a great organization on your side. The Knights have a long-term care insurance plan designed with you in mind. With KofC Care, you’re assured of meeting your needs without depleting your retirement resources…or disposing of your assets in order to qualify for public assistance. Most importantly, you can do this without becoming a financial burden on your children—a burden that can create tension even in the most loving of families.

With Knights of Columbus Care you can tailor the benefits and costs to a level that meets your needs and budget. Giving you peace of mind knowing you have a plan in place and funds available for your long-term care needs. Your Knights of Columbus agents Doug & Jody Supak are an important local resource for you. They should be your first stop for information on long-term care insurance—as well as any insurance related topic. Contact them at (979) 968-5332, or at supakins@cmaaccess.com
